Oli's background is in practical conservation, having trained with the Wildlife Trusts in 2021 and then going on to work in a wide variety of habitats including chalk grassland, broadleaf woodland, heathland, and working on a hedgerow project at Surrey Wildlife Trust hedge planting and hedge laying at various sites across central Surrey. Oli first started working with rare breed livestock in 2018 and subsequently learnt their important roles and characteristics when used in conservation grazing whilst working for The Wildlife Trusts. Oli has spent many a day working out on nature reserves, brushcutting and clearing scrub and invasive species, thinking about how goats would be great at performing all of these roles! Danni's love for Golden Guernseys was swiftly passed on to Oli after Danni brought home the Ely, Elliot, Mossy, Boggin and Floss. In their spare time Oli enjoys indoor bouldering, hiking and relaxing with a good book.
Having started volunteering on the rare breeds farm park she would later work for at the age of 14, Danni gained experience managing a range of livestock in a variety of settings including a further education college and an animal assisted learning establishment. She then joined Surrey Wildlife Trust's Conservation Grazing team in 2021, and fell in love with conservation grazing which combined her two passions of rare breed livestock and nature conservation whilst moving the Trust's herd of Belted Galloway cattle to reserves around Surrey. Having brought home her beloved pet Golden Guernsey goats, Ely, Elliot and Mossy in 2019, followed by Boggin and Floss in 2020, Danni saw a gap in the conservation grazing world that she knew could be filled by the goats she loved. She has strong interests in animal behaviour, natural medicine and self-selection, and uses these to guide her work alongside her natural synergy with animals. Most of Danni's spare time is taken up by cuddling the pet goats or Storm the Springer Spaniel, but she also loves a long walk, going bouldering and experimenting in the kitchen.
Storm the English Springer Spaniel joined the family in March 2024, aged 3 and a half. She spends half of her time attempting to break speed records, earning herself the nickname 'Stoop the Loop', and the other half fast asleep on a lap. Being a rescue she is more complex than meets the eye, but has landed on her feet with her new parents and is the most loving dog you will ever meet. Storm has been accepted by the herd and always does her best to lend a helping paw whenever she can - although her hopes as a goatherder were firmly put to rest by Boggin using her as target practice! Wherever Danni and Oli go, Storm is nearly always at their side.
Boggin is matriarch of the pet goats, since joining the family in 2020, and it's her job to keep them all in line. Having celebrated her 10th birthday in 2024, she is strong as ever and is a perfect example of how a natural life can keep a goat young at heart! She uses her powers as Queen to make sure she always gets the most cuddles, and shows her soft side looking after younger sister Floss when the boys get too big for their boots.
Floss is the reason why Mossy Oaks exists. When she met Danni in 2015 at just 3 months old, the pair immediately developed a close bond that would lead to Danni's love for Golden Guernseys. Danni cried when she learnt in 2020 that she could bring Floss home to join her son Mossy and nephews Ely and Elliot. Floss has blossomed since living a more carefree lifestyle, and loves spending summer days sunbathing - preferably with Danni's lap to rest her head on.
Ely is the biggest of all the goats, but he is the gentlest of giants. He has always taken care of his twin brother Elliot since they lost their mum, Ellie, at just 36 hours old. You can often find him stretched up a tree, cuddled up with his brother, or enjoying a neck rub from best friend Floss. He is a sweet and caring boy who tries his best to keep brother Elliot out of mischief.
Elliot may have been born in 2019, but still firmly believes he is a baby capable of fitting on mum (Danni's) lap. being delivered by Danni along with his brother, hand raised and then taken home in the boot of Danni's VW Polo with Ely and Mossy after being left with nowhere to go, attachment is an understatement. Elliot's favourite times are when he can have Danni's attention all to himself and has been known to push Oli out of the way to get this! He provides the most laughs of the family, but his proudest moment was teaching his aunties, Boggin and Floss, to browse like real goats by pulling down branches for them all to share!
